The Buccaneers are set for a rematch with the division-rival New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Buccaneers emerged victorious in Week One by a 48-40 margin and the Saints will be looking to even the season series on Tampa Bay turf.
These aren’t exactly the same teams facing off 13 weeks later. Both defenses have drastically changed, whether due to injury or improvement. The Saints own the league’s best rushing defense but conversely, are ranked No. 30 in halting the pass, giving up 279.3 points per game. That’s good news for Tampa Bay, who sits atop the league in passing offense, averaging 358.9 yards per game.
Given the familiarity between the two teams, stats and rankings may not matter. Much like the Bucs win over Carolina this past weekend, the game will come down to execution. New Orleans is coming off a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, just their second of the season. Buccaneers coaches said this week that Dallas executed well against the Saints’ high-powered offense with Drew Brees at the helm. Tampa Bay will try to do the same this Sunday.
