(WFLA) In February, the brand new Alliance of American Football will kick off its inaugural season. On Tuesday, the league held its first ever QB Draft, a chance for the AAF’s eight franchises to protect and select quarterbacks. The Bay Area wound up in the spotlight during the league’s first big night.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Johnson, allocated to the San Diego Fleet franchise, was protected by the Fleet. He will compete for the starting quarterback position.
The second selection was also a protected player. The Atlanta Legends kept former Plant High School and Georgia Bulldogs star Aaron Murray. Former USF quarterback B.J. Daniels was also chosen in the draft. He was selected in the second round by the Salt Lake Stallions.
The closest team to the Tampa Bay Area, the Orlando Apollos, protected quarterback Garrett Gilbert, a former draft pick of the Rams.
