NFL 2018 Week 16: Ravens vs. Chargers preview, statistics, odds | NFL

The Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers meet up in Southern California on Saturday with both teams having different goals in mind.

The Ravens come in with an 8-6 record and holding the last spot in the AFC wild-card spot. After losing in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 14, Baltimore bounced back by defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-12.

Baltimore is on a roll as of late after Lamar Jackson took over the starting quarterback job. Jackson is 4-1 since he took over for Joe Flacco, who was benched after he returned from injury.

Jackson has done most of his damage by using his legs, rushing for at least 65 yards in each of his five starts. However, he’s improved as a passer of the last two weeks. He tossed for 147 yards and two touchdowns with a 100.5 passer rating against the Chiefs and tossed for 131 yards and a touchdown with a 91 passer rating last week. He also didn’t throw an interception in either game.

Willie Snead IV was Jackson’s top target last week, catching five passes for 58 yards. He’s second on the team in receiving yards with 626 this season.

Gus Edwards has emerged in the ground game as of late. He ran for 104 yards against the Buccaneers, making it the third time he has run for 100 yards in the last five games.

Los Angeles (11-3) is coming off its best win of the season after defeating the Chiefs in Kansas City. Trailing for most of the game, Philip Rivers led the Chargers to a touchdown drive to make it 28-27 with four seconds left. Rather than going for the tie, the Chargers went for two points and got them, giving them a 29-28 win.

The win not only kept the Chargers’ chances to win the division alive, but it also kept their chances of having home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs alive, too.

Rivers had a solid performance, throwing for 313 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Williams and Tyrell Williams stepped up after the Chargers top receiver, Keenan Allen, left the game with a hip injury. Mike Williams had 76 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Tyrell Williams had 71 receiving yards.

The Chargers are expected to get Allen and their top rusher, Melvin Gordon, back against the Ravens.

Ravens vs. Chargers head-to-head stats

  • Will offense or defense prevail in Los Angeles? The Chargers are fourth in points scored, averaging 28.2 points per game. However, the Ravens have the top scoring defense in the league, allowing 18.1 points per game.
  • Flipping things around, both teams are nearly evenly matched. The Ravens are 13th in scoring, averaging 24.4 points per game. The Chargers’ defense ranks ninth in scoring, allowing 21.3 points per game.
  • If the last three meetings between these two teams mean anything, we should be in for a good one. The last three games between the two teams have been determined by three points, with the Ravens most recently defeating the Chargers 29-26 in 2015.
  • The Chargers have defended their turf well this season as they’re 4-2 at home. Both losses came to AFC West teams (Broncos and Chiefs). The Ravens haven’t been as strong on the road as they’re 3-4 away from home this year.

Ravens vs. Chargers betting odds

The Chargers are 4.5-point favorites at home. The over/under is set at 44 points.
