Jason Pierre-Paul says team has a lot of guys who ‘don’t keep it real’

Jason Pierre-Paul doesn’t appear to be too happy with some of his Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates. Pierre-Paul knows that playoff teams focus on doing everything for each other instead of themselves, and that is something he’s not sold the Buccaneers are about:

“I think the difference between certain teams that reach the playoffs and (ones that don’t) is when you have a certain group of guys that who just keep it real with each other,” Pierre-Paul said, per the Tampa Bay Times. “You just don’t care (about other things). You just play for each other. I think we have been playing for each other, but on the keeping it real point, I think we’ve got a lot of guys who just don’t keep it real, man.

“I’m just being real. That’s basically it. Just keeping it real. Just saying what’s on your mind. Don’t ever hide what’s on your mind. And I never hide what’s on my mind. I’ll tell you if I don’t like you, I don’t like you as a person, I’m gonna let you know. … I’ll let you know if I don’t like you as a person, but I’ll always give up the most respect for you. But as a football player, I’m just looking for guys who are going to give it their all.”

Since blowing off part of his hand, Pierre-Paul has had a different pain threshold. It’s unclear if that’s what the comments are about, but the Buccaneers defensive end has played through a lot more pain than others have.

It will be interesting to see how these comments sit with the Buccaneers, who could cut him this offseason without any hit on the salary cap. If the Buccaneers do decide to bring him back, it will be at the price of $13.5 million.
