TAMPA — As if the Bucs didn’t have enough concerns in their secondary, two rookies who figured to either start or play significantly against the Chicago Bears were downgraded and questionable for Sunday’s game.
CB Carlton Davis appeared on the injury report for the first time on Friday with a groin problem and is questionable. S Jordan Whitehead, who had full participation all week despite a shoulder injury, has a hamstring issue and had only limited participation in practice Friday. He is also questionable.
Davis, a second-round pick from Auburn, has started all three games this season. He has 13 tackles and one pass defensed. Davis could be replaced by Ryan Smith.
Whitehead figured to get a shot to replace S Chris Conte, who was placed on IR with a knee injury. If he is unable to go, the Bucs may have to turn to Isaiah Johnson.
CB Marcus Williams (hamstring) had full participation in practice Friday but is questionable.
The good news is that DT Vita Vea, who missed all of the preseason with a calf injury, could make his NFL debut Sunday. Officially, he is listed as questionable.
LT Demar Dotson (knee) and DT Gerald McCoy (biceps) will play. The only player ruled out for Sunday is Beau Allen, who did not play last week due to a foot injury.
